Reuser Cruiser

A family enjoying a day at an amusement park end up taking a very unexpected water ride.

So, what are the pros and cons of water bottles?

Pros : They are very convenient! They are light-weight, you can get them almost anywhere, and you can get rid of the bottle as soon as you are done with it.

Cons :

  • They are made out of oil
  • Only one out of ten bottles are recycled, the rest end up in the landfill or as litter
  • Littler affects wildlife because plastic does not biodegrade. The bottles remain whole for a long time before they start breaking up into smaller pieces that can be mistaken for food by animals, and which result very diffucult for humans to clean up.
  • recycled water bottles cannot be made into new water bottles. Recycling plastic degrades its quality, so it ends up going into making benches, door mats and clothes.

Green Ninja-approved alternatives to disposable water bottles:

Having a reusable container: they come in several sizes, shapes and colors, and you can refill them at home, and other places that have water fountains.

Using water fountains: Most facilties have access to a water fountain.

Installing a water filter: You can have a filtration system directly installed to your sink, or simply use a pitcher with a built-in filter.

Drinking tap water: tap water is cheaper and local goverments try to ensure we are provided with safe drinking water.
